Tantôt noueuse, brisant l’espace d’une ligne nerveuse ou d’un sursaut déhanché, tantôt tout en généreux déliés et pointes espiègles, la danse de Mats Ek trahit les plus secrets mouvements de l’âme humaine et fouille au revers du conscient pour en libérer les impulsions. Puissamment expressive et précise, elle ose la narration et peut osciller du tragique à la dérision grinçante. Créée en 1978, La Maison de Bernarda s’inspire de l’œuvre ultime de Federico Garcia Lorca qui dénonce avec force les funestes carcans de la société rurale espagnole où « naître femme est la pire des punitions ». Entrelaçant guitare traditionnelle et fragments pour orgue de Bach, la pièce laisse percer l’irrépressible sensualité des désirs corsetés par l’oppression religieuse et familiale. Invitation au voyage et à la rêverie, Une Sorte de (1997)… croise réminiscences surréalistes et troubles oniriques où l’étrangeté se marie au grotesque, comme une errance aux confins d’un songe amoureux.
