Ils qualifient leur style musical de « Pop fanfare ». Après avoir créé le groupe de fusion Dezoriental, Georges Baux et Abdelwaheb Sefsaf reviennent avec le Fantasia orchestra, une formation de six musiciens (Quentin Allemand, Antony Gatta, Claude Gomez et Laurent Guitton ont rejoint les deux compositeurs) dont les instruments ont été choisis pour sonner naturellement dans tous types d’acoustiques et pouvoir ainsi jouer n’importe où. Accordéon, tuba, grosse caisse, cymbales, banjo, bugle…, donnent ainsi corps à une écriture empreinte de toutes sortes de références (des Pogues à King Crimson, en passant par Nino Rota, The Doors, Farid El Atrache, Charles Aznavour, Andrew Bird…). Une écriture qui, aujourd’hui, revisite l’univers de William Shakespeare. « Mauresk Song parle d’amour et de haine, déclare Abdelwaheb Sefsaf. En partant d’une relecture d’Othello, j’ai voulu raconter combien le fossé entre nos différences et nos appartenances, non seulement ne se comble pas, mais me semble se creuser davantage. Le thème est séculaire, mais il reste tristement d’actualité. Il est Noir et elle est Blanche : aujourd’hui encore ils doivent se battre… » Ode à l’amour universel et à la transcendance des origines, Mauresk Song tend à témoigner que « les contraires, en se rencontrant, donnent lieu à une infinie matière de régénérescences ». Une façon de célébrer l’altérité en musique.
