Une longue amitié a lié le compositeur Luigi Nono (1924-1990) au pianiste Maurizio Pollini, qui fut le premier interprète de …sofferte onde serene…, œuvre étonnante de près d’un quart d’heure, qui joue en funambule entre les clusters joués en direct et leur double enregistré : curieux miroir où le Pollini d’aujourd’hui dialogue avec celui de 1976. On retrouve de tels « blocs harmoniques » dans les Canti di vita e d’amore (1962), dont est tiré Djamila Boupacha, poignante monodie a capella chantée ici par l’excellente Barbara Hannigan. La soprano sera également l’interprète, aux côtés du pianiste, de A floresta é jovem e cheja de vida (1966), fresque sonore, avec récitants, bande magnétique et percussions métalliques, illustrant des moments de la « lutte anti-impérialiste ». Le propos de Chopin est naturellement bien moins politique, mais il n’est pas interdit de voir dans les Prélude op. 45, Ballade n° 2, Scherzo n° 1 et Sonate n° 2 interprétées ici la liberté émancipatrice de l’artiste telle que la rêvait Nono.
