Maurizio Pollini, qui vient de fêter en janvier ses 70 ans, poursuit à la Salle Pleyel son cycle des « Pollini Perspectives ». Le principe, excellent, ne change pas : confronter les classiques du répertoire à la musique contemporaine. Ce mois-ci, le duel met en présence Beethoven et Stockhausen, deux compositeurs ayant poussé l’écriture pianistique jusque dans ses ultimes retranchements. Les sonates de Beethoven choisies par Pollini (n°24 « A Thérèse », n° 25 « Alla tedesca », n° 26 « Les Adieux » et n°27) sont d’une modernité formelle et rythmique toujours aussi sidérante. Quant aux Klavierstücke de Stockhausen, ils expérimentent de nouvelles architectures, inspirées du nombre d’or ou de l’écriture aléatoire, avec un souci évident de théâtralité. Le jeu de Pollini, virtuose mais toujours contrôlé, brillant mais distant, est le mieux à même de faire le lien entre ces deux « mythes » germaniques.
