Médée, deuxième ! Après la tragédie lyrique de Marc-Antoine Charpentier, qui a ouvert la saison lyrique du centenaire du Théâtre des Champs-Élysées, Pascal Dusapin « raconte » à son tour le drame de la cruelle infanticide dans une œuvre forte, un mélodrame adapté du Medeamaterial de Heiner Müller, où la voix de colorature de l’héroïne – Caroline Stein – est portée par un orchestre d’instruments anciens, l’Academie für alte Musik Berlin dirigé par Marcus Creed. Créée en 1992, rapidement devenue un « classique contemporain », cette Medea a connu plusieurs mises en scène qui ont chacune affirmé la modernité du mythe. En 2007, la chorégraphe Sasha Waltz proposait la sienne, que reprend aujourd’hui le Théâtre des Champs-Élysées. Médée y apparaît comme une magicienne que le poison de la vengeance pousse à détruire sa propre chair.
