On a trop l’habitude de dire que le butô est né sur les cendres d’Hiroshima, pour rester sur une image d’Epinal de cet art, entre corps tordu par les souffrances du monde et esthétique ténébreuse. C’est sans compter le retour à la lumière, qui a pu porter le butô vers des pensées plus humanistes et universelles, dont Ushio Amagatsu a été, pendant les quarante années de sa compagnie Sankai Juku, l’un des plus fameux représentants. Créée en 2015, Meguri est une pièce issue de ce même mouvement, et qui puise son inspiration dans les quatre éléments. L’eau, l’air, la terre et le feu sont à la fois explorés pour la symbolique qu’ils supposent, mais aussi pour les images poétiques qu’ils impriment. Dans la lenteur des gestes des danseurs, qui reste une marque de fabrique du chorégraphe, s’étalent des paysages visuels toujours étonnants, tels des tableaux vivants, ou de somptueux jardins mouvants.
