Henri Mariel crée ce spectacle ambitieux afin d’appréhender la vérité d’Hitler, en évitant le piège de la caricature, qui explique les actes monstrueux d’Hitler par la monstruosité malade de sa psychologie, une équation trop simple pouvant empêcher une réelle réflexion sur son accès au pouvoir. Car l’homme a converti des dizaines de millions d’Allemands civilisés à sa conception raciale et antisémite du monde, vision totalement débile et massivement meurtrière, et cette idéologie est loin de n’appartenir qu’à la folie d’un homme, encore aujourd’hui. L’approche d’Henri Mariel laisse donc voir les faiblesses de cet homme et sa personnalité pateline, et structure la pièce en cinq tableaux, montrant son rapport aux femmes, ses souvenirs, son engagement… Sur scène, un comédien en fin de carrière accepte d’interpréter le personnage d’Hitler, un rendez-vous très important pour lui. Un dialogue s’instaure et s’intensifie entre le comédien et le dictateur. Explorer l’homme dans sa dimension réelle vise ainsi à éclairer la dimension symbolique du dirigeant, et les rouages effrayants de l’Histoire. Philippe Ogouz interprète Hitler, Franck Saurel et Béatrice Temple les autres personnages. A méditer…
