« Mes seins poussent…, ça se voit ? » « Et mes rides…, elles se voient ? » « Ma peur de grandir, à qui la dire ? » « Et ma peur de vieillir, peux-tu la comprendre ? » C’est le premier jour d’école. Camille et sa mère Lucie se retrouvent dans leur salle de bain. L’une est sur le point de renouer avec le milieu du travail après une longue période consacrée à sa famille, l’autre, ayant changé d’établissement scolaire, va devoir chercher une place parmi un nouveau groupe d’amis. Sur le rebord de la baignoire, dans ce lieu protégé, elles partagent leurs peurs et leurs rêves, leurs angoisses et leurs attentes. « Camille et Lucie doivent faire face à une société fortement compétitive et sexiste dans laquelle les femmes doivent faire le double des hommes pour s’affirmer, note Laura Forti. Je pense avec tendresse à ces deux femmes qui se préparent pour affronter le monde. Quel instrument peut donner une mère à sa fille pour qu’elle évite ses propres erreurs ? Et cette fille, à qui peut-elle raconter ses problèmes, sur qui peut-elle compter si ce n’est sa mère ? » De confessions en affrontements, de frottements en éclats de rire, Mère/Fille ausculte avec malice la complexité, les contradictions et les incompréhensions de ces rapports d’intimité intergénérationnelle.
