Dans La Métamorphose, un voyageur de commerce se réveille un jour transformé en cafard. Conservant la trame narrative de la nouvelle de Franz Kafka, Sylvain Maurice souhaite créer un spectacle qui « s’en émancipe complètement du point de vue de la représentation ». « En se transformant, explique-t-il, Gregor met à jour les contradictions, les secrets et les mensonges familiaux : le père, qui vit grâce au dur labeur de son fils ; la mère, dépossédée de son destin, rongée par l’angoisse ; la sœur, tendrement aimée, qui trahit son frère… » Pour concevoir Métamorphose, le metteur en scène s’est inspiré du cinéma muet et de Buster Keaton. « Je fais le pari que Kafka offre la possibilité d’un théâtre profondément décalé, étrange et drôle à la fois », déclare-t-il. Un théâtre à la fois ancré « dans le fantastique et la banalité du quotidien », qui vise à « toucher l’au-delà du miroir ».
