Si les mélomanes parisiens de la musique classique connaissent forcément les deux interprètes à l’affiche de ce concert, beaucoup n’ont jamais passé la porte du lieu qu’ils ont choisi pour présenter leur nouvel enregistrement. Le Bal Blomet, salle historique créée en 1924 et devenue sous le nom de Bal Nègre un des hauts lieux de la vie artistique parisienne des années 1930-1960, a réouvert sous sa nouvelle identité en 2017 pour devenir un lieu de concerts à dominante jazz. C’est dans ce cadre chaleureux aux allures de club new-yorkais que le pianiste et compositeur Michael Levinas et le violoniste Christophe Giovaninetti, chambriste hors-pair connu comme fondateur et violon solo du Quatuor Ysaye, viennent défendre leur nouvel enregistrement « Brahms – Les sonates pour violon et piano » (sur le label Continuo Musique). Deux sonates de Brahms sont donc au programme (les Sonate opus 78 et Sonate n°3 opus 108) associées à la Sonate n°10 opus 96 de Beethoven. Un compositeur que les deux interprètes ont abondamment fréquenté au disque comme au concert, Levinas ayant notamment signé une intégrale de référence des sonates pour piano de Beethoven dans les années 1980.
