En 2006, l’année de son écriture, Daniel Pennac interpréta ce monologue dans la mise en scène de Jean-Michel Ribes au Théâtre du Rond-Point. Un monologue théâtral, puisqu’il s’adresse à un public venu écouter un discours de remerciements, sauf qu’en l’espèce, l’écrivain lauréat remercié « pour l’ensemble de son œuvre » s’interroge sur la finalité et l’impossible sincérité non seulement de l’exercice, mais aussi de la récompense. Serait-ce pour ses « mérites imaginaires » que la récompense a été décidée ?

Daniel Pennac égratigne les codes hypocrites, les usages convenus, évoque le geste solitaire de l’artiste, mais le plus intéressant surgit lorsque perce une forme de vérité ancrée dans la vie, comme la froideur immobile d’une l’enfance sous l’œil sévère et indifférent de Monsieur Blamard, instituteur à Cholonge-sur-Soulte. Jusqu’à ce que des « libérateurs de lumière » ouvrent une porte… Si Michel Bruzat a décidé de mettre en scène ce texte c’est d’abord parce qu’il a pensé à son interprète, complice de longue date de ses aventures artistiques, Flavie Edel Jeaume. Sur le plateau nu, avec en son milieu un mini-bar où est posé le trophée, elle s’adresse au public en traversant toutes sortes de sentiments et d’états, entre véhémence et fragilité.
