Comme en témoigne sa remarquable discographie (chez Naxos, essentiellement), le chef français Michel Piquemal est un fou de musique française. À la tête de ses différentes formations, il enregistre des œuvres de Duruflé, Fauré, Honegger, Poulenc, Ropartz, Tomasi…En 1996, avec son ensemble vocal, il remporte une Victoire de la Musique Classique pour son intégrale de la musique sacrée de Maurice Duruflé. En 1998, il obtient la même récompense avec le Chœur Régional Vittoria d’Ile de France, pour son interprétation du Roi David d’Arthur Honegger. Michel Piquemal a conçu pour cette série de quatre concerts un passionnant programme de musique française pour chœur et piano. Deux œuvres chorales familières – Le Cantique de Jean Racine de Gabriel Fauré et Gallia de Charles Gounod – partagent l’affiche avec deux raretés : le Psaume 136 de Joseph-Guy Ropartz – ce formidable compositeur breton, disciple de Fauré, que Piquemal a tant défendu (cette œuvre a été enregistrée pour Naxos en 1994) -, et un cycle de chansons, Indianas, de Carlos Guastavino (1912-2000), compositeur argentin post-romantique passionné par la voix (il a signé plus de 150 mélodies). Le programme sera complété par des pièces pour piano seul de Ravel, Poulenc et Ginastera interprétées par Christine Lajarrige. Avec le Chœur régional Vittoria d’Ile de France, la soprano Shigeko Hata et Michel Piquemal pour la direction (remplacé par Daniel Bargier, le 15 décembre).
