Ecrire pour tenir. C’est un peu le credo d’Alfred Dreyfus qui au plus fort de la tourmente, reclus sur l’île du Diable, entame un journal intime et un échange épistolaire avec sa femme tour à tour confidente, consolatrice, épouse, maîtresse et mère. Dans ces écrits, Dreyfus fait montre d’une hauteur de vue et d’un attachement indéfectible à la France des Droits de l’homme. Ce qui l’intéresse, ce n’est pas seulement de sauver son honneur, mais que son affaire devienne un exemple pour tous. Adaptés par Joël Abadie, ses textes sont portés à la scène par Gilbert Ponté dans un spectacle créé en 2012 qui a depuis lors entamé une tournée en France et à l’étranger. Dans un décor épuré, le metteur en scène s’attache à montrer la force « du rituel de l’écrit » qui permet à Dreyfus de « prendre de la distance, d’objectiver une situation autant absurde qu’intolérable pour mieux l’analyser de l’extérieur et parfois même en rire. » N’est-ce pas le meilleur moyen de se dépasser et sortir grandi de l’épreuve ? Car jamais Dreyfus ne laisse transparaître de haine. C’est la belle leçon d’humanisme de ce spectacle qui aurait pu avoir pour titre : « Vous n’aurez pas ma haine ».
