C’est dans l’espace imaginé par le scénographe et peintre mexicain Carlos Torres que les neuf comédiens de la compagnie Les Trois-Huit investissent Moi aussi je veux un prophète. Un espace ouvert, obscur, transpercé d’éclats de lumière, de taches de couleur, au sein duquel Marion Aeschlimann, Vincent Bady, Alizée Bingöllü, Anne de Boissy, Elodie Grumelart, Abdelslam Laroussi Rouibate, Elsa Rocher, Florian Santos et Arthur Vandepoel font résonner de manière extrêmement stimulante la pièce de Ximena Escalante. Cette auteure née en 1964, encore quasiment inconnue en France, fait partie des figures de proue du théâtre mexicain actuel. Première des quatre « escales » composant le Polyptyque Escalante que la metteure en scène Sylvie Mongin-Algan présentera tout au long de l’année 2011 à Lyon, au Nouveau Théâtre du 8ème, Moi aussi je veux un prophète projette la cour du roi Hérode dans une époque contemporaine. Une cour qui dévoile l’existence d’un monarque traversé par des questionnements métaphysiques, d’une reine poursuivie par son ombre, d’un bourreau qui pleure, d’une princesse et d’une de ses amies faisant l’expérience d’extases charnelles… Autant de personnages ébranlés par la présence, au fond d’un cachot, d’un prophète à l’aura sibylline.

Tout tourne autour de cet être magnétique dont le destin s’achève comme celui de Saint Jean Baptiste. Prenant part de diverses façons à son calvaire, les protagonistes de Moi aussi je veux un prophète se laissent peu à peu secouer par des méditations introspectives, par des prises de conscience liées aux notions de beauté, de bonheur, de plaisir, de réalité, d’illusion… La représentation conçue par Sylvie Mongin-Algan – servie par une remarquable distribution – s’attache non pas à élucider les zones de complexité de la pièce, non pas à aplanir ses à-pics, à suturer ses déchirures, mais au contraire à en faire vibrer toutes les strates, toutes les dimensions, à dessiner toutes les lignes de confrontation de cette écriture éclatée. Saluons l’exigence de la compagnie lyonnaise qui nourrit aujourd’hui de son inspiration un univers théâtral aigu, intrigant. Un univers que l’on ne manquera pas d’approfondir en assistant à Electre se réveille, la deuxième « escale » du Polyptyque Escalante : une autre transposition contemporaine de personnages légendaires.
