La pièce d’origine Young People, Old Voices, créée en 2004 à Montpellier Danse, suivait à la lettre le programme annoncé par le titre. Des chansons « Oldies but Goldies » et les voix de Dalida, Peggy Lee, Judy Garland, Dean Martin, Leo Ferré… sur lesquelles dansaient douze jeunes danseurs, entrecoupées d’extraits du Sacre du Printemps. En réalité, la pièce d’une rare beauté contemplative était faite de la matière du temps qui passe, comme le soulignait la célèbre rengaine de Léo Ferré « Avec le temps ». Mais plutôt qu’un refrain nostalgique, Raimund Hoghe en avait fait une ode à la jeunesse, à l’être ensemble, avec des moments mémorables comme ces jeunes alignés la tête posée sur l’épaule de leur voisin, ou ces sauts désordonnés qui disaient la révolte et la communauté. Pièce maîtresse de ce Montpellier Danse 40bis, placé sous l’égide de « Voir et Revoir », cette version plus resserrée, intitulée Moments of Young People, prend le pouls de la jeunesse européenne de 2020. Et si les voix d’antan n’ont pas changé, le monde de l’époque s’en est allé. Mais Raimund Hoghe sait transformer l’état du monde en rituels poignants.
