Parmi la trentaine de propositions qui font rayonner le festival sur Montpellier et en région, on retrouve la présence de grandes figures de la danse qui ont déjà connu la ville, à travers de nouvelles créations. Raimund Hoghe s’empare d’ailleurs d’une figure chère à la ville : en souhaitant rendre hommage à Dominique Bagouet, dont la réminiscence des pièces apparaît comme des traces, le chorégraphe s’empare du contexte propre aux années 80, années de l’explosion de la danse comme du sida. Si je meurs, laissez le balcon ouvert (titre en référence à Garcia Lorca) est une pièce de groupe qui se nourrit de multiples références, d’une mémoire relue par un regard d’aujourd’hui. Mathilde Monnier, qui prit en 1994 la succession de Bagouet, présente comme souvent une création. Aujourd’hui, c’est avec le plasticien Dominique Figarella qu’elle se lance dans un quatuor où danse et peinture s’interrogent et dialoguent tout au long du processus.
Grandes œuvres, installations, films et œuvres plastiques
De son côté, Régine Chopinot, qui appartient à la même génération de créateurs, marque sa singularité à travers une installation danse / image / son / lumière au titre évocateur : Indépendance n°1. Après plus de vingt ans à la tête d’un CCN, ne vient-elle pas de retrouver la liberté et les errances d’une compagnie indépendante ? Ce nouveau travail vient se nourrir de son souvenir de petite fille, suspendue en dehors du temps et en dehors de soi, à contempler la méditerranée le soir sur les genoux de sa grand-mère… Son successeur à La Rochelle est aussi l’un des invités phares du festival. Kader Attou signe une pièce ambitieuse, loin des histoires personnelles ou des influences clownesques de son précédent Petites histoires.com. Ici, Symfonia piesni załosnych prend à bras-le-corps la symphonie n°3 de Gorecki avec dix danseurs. Alain Buffard offre également une création pour Montpellier Danse. Tout va bien, nous dit-il, alors que ses danseurs débordent d’imagination, de tactiques et de stratégies pour s’émanciper des processus d’aliénation dans lesquels les corps sont plongés malgré eux.
