La parole, ici, se déploie au coeur de l’intime, en monologue, lorsqu’on est sûr que personne ne vous écoute, lorsque le jugement des autres ne conditionne pas le discours. C’est lors de ces moments que les vérités les plus enfouies surgissent par petites touches, exprimant toute leur ironie et leurs contradictions. Une frite dans le sucre et La Chance de sa vie sont deux des sept monologues d’Alan Bennett – intitulés Moulins à paroles – qui décortiquent avec une diabolique subtilié ces tranches de vie ordinaire, entre comédie irrésistible et tragédie irrévocable. Dans le premier, Graham, la cinquantaine, vit seul avec sa mère, qui rencontre un ancien amant. Ces retrouvailles bouleversent son équilibre et son identité. Dans le second, Leslie, qui fut figurante dans Tess de Polanski, veut perfectionner son art de comédienne et n’est pas au bout de ses surprises. Comment faire entendre ces bouts d’existence secrète, cette parole circulaire ? Le metteur en scène Laurent Crovella résout cette question dramaturgique de l’adresse en orchestrant une féconde proximité avec les spectateurs, pour qu’ils puissant “être happés par le destin intime des personages”. Deux structures comme deux fragments d’appartement abritent les personages, interprétés par Stéphanie Gramont et Xavier Boulanger, et leurs monologues se croisent et nous entraînent.
