Treize ans après vos premières pièces, vous voici à la tête d’un CCN… Quels sont les nouveaux horizons qui s’ouvrent à votre compagnie ?
Mourad Merzouki : D’abord, cela représente des moyens et des conditions de travail totalement neufs ! Après tant d’années à s’autofinancer (à hauteur de 85 % de son budget), la compagnie va enfin pouvoir sortir la tête de l’eau. C’est aussi un événement important pour la culture hip hop : au départ, on voyait le hip hop comme une esthétique éphémère, un phénomène de mode pour un public restreint… S’installer dans un CCN, c’est l’occasion de démontrer le contraire, de faire mieux connaître l’histoire et les différents aspects de la danse et de la culture hip hop. Et, surtout, d’inventer des échanges, des métissages : le projet que j’ai proposé pour le CCN repose sur l’ouverture et le croisement des genres. Ce lieu sera donc également ouvert (notamment dans le cadre de l’accueil-studio) à des compagnies dont l’esthétique est a priori éloignée du hip hop.
Vous avez par ailleurs une intense activité au niveau international…
M. M. : C’est un pan important du projet du CCN. Je viens de terminer un spectacle pour le Cirque Eloize, au Québec, avec des danseurs et circassiens du monde entier ; j’ai également créé avec des danseurs brésiliens une pièce qui va être accueillie à la Maison des Arts de Créteil ; je m’apprête à commencer une création franco-taïwanaise avec des danseurs de ces deux pays et à reprendre Terrain vague pour le présenter en Inde. Avec tous ces pays, nous allons mettre en place des passerelles : des rencontres, des « échanges d’artistes », des master classes…
Par ailleurs, vous êtes le directeur artistique du festival Karavel, près de Lyon, dont la troisième édition aura lieu en octobre.
M. M. : Karavel est emblématique de mon projet pour le hip hop : de nombreuses compagnies présentent leur travail devant un public divers, fait de jeunes et de moins jeunes ; on peut y voir ce qui se passe aujourd’hui dans le hip hop, mais aussi découvrir d’autres chorégraphes, comme Pierre Rigal ou Joëlle Bouvier… Cette troisième édition est aussi l’occasion d’inaugurer Pôle Pik, un nouveau centre chorégraphique. La compagnie Käfig devait s’y installer : ma nomination à Créteil change la donne, et nous sommes en train de réfléchir à la façon dont d’autres artistes vont pouvoir profiter de ce nouvel outil.
