Dans cette pièce épistolaire qui fut finaliste du Prix Pulitzer de théâtre en 1990, c’est la correspondance de toute une vie qui se dévoile, entre Mélissa et Andy, deux amis de plus de quarante ans, deux âmes sœurs restées indéfectiblement liés même s’ils n’ont pas vécu ensemble. Lui est devenu avocat reconnu, elle s’est perdu suite à un mariage malheureux. Complicité de l’enfance, passions adolescentes, espoirs et désenchantements de l’âge adulte, entre succès professionnels et difficultés amoureuses : ils préservent leur lien grâce aux lettres, qui racontent les joies et les épreuves, qui entre le ressenti et l’analyse mêlent toutes sortes de sentiments et dessinent d’émouvants portraits. Deux très grands comédiens, Brigitte Fossey et Jean Sorel, portent cette histoire d’amour, cette traversée d’une vie, dans la mise en scène généreuse de Muriel Mayette-Holtz.
