On ne présente plus ce grand poète du piano, né à New York en 1947, marqué par ses étés de jeunesse à l’académie du Festival de Marlboro. Un lieu d’épanouissement musical où il bénéficia de l’enseignement de grands témoins de la musique au XXème siècle nommés Horszowski, Casals ou Serkin. Révélé sur la scène internationale en 1972 lors de son succès au Concours de Leeds, il est d’abord et durant de longues années essentiellement applaudi pour son approche du répertoire romantique. Depuis une dizaine d’années, Perahia regarde de plus en plus volontiers vers les compositeurs baroques ou classiques (Haendel, Scarlatti), et surtout Bach, auquel il a récemment consacré une série d’enregistrements mémorables (Variations Goldberg, Concertos, Suites anglaises,…), prouvant, par leur beauté et leur profondeur, la potentialité retrouvée de jouer cette musique sur piano moderne. C’est justement Bach qui ouvrira son prochain récital parisien (Partita n°6), avant de laisser la place à quelques géants romantiques : Beethoven (Sonate pour piano n° 30 en mi majeur, opus 109), Brahms (Klavierstucke opus 118) et Chopin (deux Etudes ; Ballade opus 47).
