Ce qui occupe artistiquement et politiquement Gilles Martin, c’est la possibilité ou l’impossibilité de nos relations avec l’autre, une réflexion qu’il propose de questionner sur le plateau avec des citoyens. Des murs de toutes sortes n’en finissent pas de s’élever un peu partout sur la planète, surgissant çà et là, empêchant de gagner la vue, la vision ou la lumière. Ces éléments urbains obéissent en réalité à une dialectique infernale subtile : les murs agressent ou bien protègent, divisent ou rassemblent, enferment ou libèrent. Le spectacle Murs est construit à partir d’un texte de Jean-Gabriel Nordmann et d’entretiens réalisés avec les habitants de la ville. Pour Nordmann, les murs investissent autant le monde que les esprits. La pièce raconte à travers cinq destins, la violence, la guerre, l’amour, l’exil, la frontière, la famille, l’enfance et la place des femmes dans un monde masculin. Murs réunit sur scène trois comédiens, un danseur et un chœur de seize citoyens. Une telle équipe, professionnelle et amateur, est habilitée à parler du lien entre théâtre et cité.
