Cette programmation 2009 se veut à l’écoute de ce début de siècle en plein bouleversement en « réinventant son pacte avec une très actuelle modernité. Celle qui, sans barrières, conjugue richesse et diversité des répertoires, s’ouvre à des esthétiques musicales variées et aux jeunes générations avec une vingtaine de compositeurs âgés de moins de trente-cinq ans, notamment ceux de la génération des années soixante-dix : Johannes Maria Staud (voir encadré), Bruno Mantovani, Francesco Filidei, Raphaël Cendo, Dai Fujikura, Yann Robin… ». Parmi les autres fils conducteurs, relevons les hommages à Wolfgang Rihm et Luca Francesconi, une série de spectacles musicaux – de la grande forme opératique avec le Richard III de Giorgio Battistelli au théâtre musical intimiste de Marianne Pousseur, avec aussi une poussée de la scène musicale américaine avec Steve Reich ou les jazzmen Steve Coleman et Cecil Taylor.
