MUSIQUE DE CHAMBRE / PALAIS GARNIER
Les quatre partitions réunies par les musiciens de l’Orchestre de l’Opéra de Paris sont des œuvres très personnelles, qui donnent une idée de la liberté gagnée par des compositeurs marqués par la révolution stravinskienne mais soucieux aussi de mélodie, sinon de folklore. La très belle et dynamique Ouverture sur des thèmes juifs (1920) de Prokofiev use ainsi d’un effectif original (piano, clarinette et quatuor à cordes) pour se rapprocher de l’esprit de la musique klezmer. La même instrumentation est retenue par Aaron Copland dans son Sextuor (1937) version de chambre de sa 2e Symphonie, rythmiquement audacieuse. Pour le merveilleusement mélancolique Dover Beach (1931), Samuel Barber réunit quant à lui baryton et quatuor. Enfin, on découvrira le rare Souvenir de voyage (1967) pour clarinette et quatuor de Bernard Herrmann, musicien attitré d’Alfred Hitchcock.
