Le charme voire la magie d’un festival tiennent à peu de choses… Ceux de l’Empéri relèvent moins finalement du cadre pourtant exceptionnel de son château que de l’atmosphère unique d’amitié et de jeunesse de cette manifestation imaginée en 1993 par trois copains chambristes : le pianiste Eric Le Sage, le clarinettiste Paul Meyer et le flûtiste Emmanuel Pahud. Ces trois prestigieux solistes réunissent une fois encore autour d’eux de nombreux partenaires de grand renom dans une programmation tournée cette année vers la Russie… Les œuvres de Borodine, Chostakovitch, Schnittke, Goubaïdoulina, Glinka, Rachmaninov, Tchaïkovski, Stravinski, Rimski-Korsakov ou Prokofiev sont donc au programme, servies (en particulier) par la soprano Sunhae Im, le bassoniste Gilbert Audin, le trompettiste Sergei Nakariakov, les violonistes Maja Avramovic, Guy Braunstein, David Grimal, Daishin Kashimoto et Alexandre Stikovetsky ou les pianistes Frank Braley, Bertrand Chamayou et Kirill Gerstein, etc… A signaler enfin, deux projections de cinéma muet en concert : le célèbre Homme à la Caméra (1929) de Dziga Vertov « accompagné » par le pianiste de jazz Baptiste Trotignon et La Nouvelle Babylone (1929) de Leonid Trauberg et Grigori M. Kozintsev, avec la prestation de l’organiste-compositeur Thierry Escaich, improvisant sur les thèmes composés initialement par Chostakovitch pour le film.
