Au départ, c’est une réunion de copains. Le pianiste Eric Le Sage, le flûtiste Emmanuel Pahud et le clarinettiste Paul Meyer se retrouvent pour monter, en 1993, un festival de musique de chambre, à l’écart de leurs carrières de concertistes ou de solistes d’orchestre. Au fur et à mesure des éditions, ils invitent de plus en plus de musiciens, du pianiste Frank Braley au bassoniste Gilbert Audin. Aujourd’hui, Musique à l’Empéri est devenu l’un des plus passionnants festivals dédiés au répertoire chambriste. Cette année, il navigue dans les eaux beethovéniennes (Septuor, le 5 août ; Grande fugue, le 6 août), dont la production mêle souvent vents et cordes – marque de fabrique du festival. En contrepoint seront projetés des films muets, sur lesquels improviseront Jean-François Zygel (sur Safety at last d’Harold Lloyd, le 27 juillet) et Thierry Escaich (sur Faust de Murnau, le 29 juillet).
