Le XVIIIème siècle a connu un bouillonnement intellectuel d’une rare richesse. La Cité de la musique a décidé de mettre en lumière les partitions écrites en lien direct avec ce contexte historique. La Chambre Philharmonique donnera ainsi sous la baguette d’Emmanuel Krivine la Troisième symphonie « Eroica », écrite par Beethoven en souvenir de Napoléon Bonaparte (le 29 septembre), que le compositeur qualifia de libérateur puis de tyran, lorsqu’il fut couronné empereur en 1804. Une œuvre à mettre en parallèle avec une autre partition du Maître de Bonn : le Concerto « L’Empereur », qui sera interprété par le piano toujours fin et poétique d’Alain Planès, sous la direction d’Heinz Holliger (le 7 octobre). De son côté, la clarinette volubile et insolente de Paul Meyer se régalera du Concerto de Mozart, composé à l’intention du franc-maçon Anton Stadler (le 2 octobre). De Haydn, on pourra entendre la Symphonie « Le Philosophe » par le tout jeune ensemble du violoniste David Grimal, Les Dissonances. Enfin, le claveciniste Olivier Baumont allie la lecture de textes de Diderot à l’exécution de pièces de musique baroque (les 29 et 30 septembre).
