Intitulé « Yiddishland », ce programme de l’Ensemble Musique Oblique trace une histoire de l’inspiration juive dans la musique du xxe siècle. Avec Prokofiev tout d’abord et son Ouverture sur des thèmes juifs, chef-d’œuvre de virtuosité pour quatuor à cordes, clarinette et piano qui se situe à mi-chemin de la restitution du folklore et de la création. C’est le cas également pour les deux autres pièces brèves : le Kol Nidre de Max Bruch, dans sa version pour alto et piano, et le Nigun d’Ernest Bloch. De plus grande envergure, le Trio avec piano n° 2 de Chostakovitch s’inscrit lui aussi dans cet héritage par l’entêtant thème principal de l’Allegretto final. Seul compositeur vivant au programme, Osvaldo Golijov (né en 1969) revisite la tradition klezmer dans Les Rêves et Prières d’Isaac l’Aveugle pour clarinette et quatuor.
