Du théâtre avec des morceaux de chansons à l’intérieur… Jonathan Kerr, auteur contemporain de théâtre, distingué en particulier par sa Camille C. (qui a reçu en 2005 le « Molière » du meilleur spectacle musical),a imaginé à la demande de Laurent Malot un spectacle autour de Nougaro. « Personne n’a exprimé dans le fond et dans la forme aussi fort ce qu’était pour moi l’art de faire une chanson et l’art de la porter sur scène » confie Laurent Malot. Jonathan Kerr signe et met en scène cette « Funambulation poétique » conçue pour un personnage, un homme d’aujourd’hui, âgé de 40 ans, confronté à ses interrogations existentielles… L’auteur suscite un dialogue entre ce personnage arrivé à un tournant de sa vie d’homme et un choix de chansons de Claude Nougaro, composées par le Toulousain au cours des années 70, alors qu’il a sensiblement le même âge. Au-delà des générations et des époques, leurs doutes et obsessions sont les mêmes : l’enfance, l’amour, la femme, la mutation, l’enfer, l’alcool, la danse… Dans une mise en scène inventive, et par la grâce et le swing d’un interprète impressionnant de lyrisme et de nuance, le texte de théâtre éclaire les chansons, tandis que les chansons auréolent notre héros d’une force poétique et émotionnelle magnifique. Avec aussi Christophe Ferry, pianiste et arrangeur, troisième homme du projet, que Malot compare à Maurice Vander, l’alter-ego de Nougaro : « le même lyrisme, les mêmes envolées, le même mélange de savoir savant et d’instinct populaire, ce talent à porter et à mettre en valeur les mots chantés »…
