Chorégraphie Chankethya Chey
Danseuse cambodgienne formée à la pure tradition classique dans son pays, Chankethya Chey fait partie des références montantes de la chorégraphie au Cambodge : très impliquée dans son pays, notamment avec le Ballet Royal du Cambodge, elle dirige, en parallèle de sa propre compagnie, un groupe de neuf jeunes danseuses cambodgiennes. Ses recherches l’amènent à creuser une écriture contemporaine, qu’elle a pu éprouver depuis 2002 à travers cinq créations, avant de bénéficier d’une bourse pour participer à l’American Dance Festival. Aujourd’hui, son solo My Mothers and I semble réunir sur le plateau les pleins et les déliés d’un parcours voué à la danse, et pétri de multiples influences et sources chorégraphiques. Elle y mêle des questions identitaires, sous-tendues par le contexte politique et historique de son pays. Qui est-on lorsque l’on danse, lorsque le corps parle au creux des non-dits et des chocs soulevés par les guerres, les traumatismes, l’oppression ? L’aspect autobiographique est incarné par les figures qu’elle convoque, qui sont autant de « mères » – la maman, la terre natale, l’enseignante… -, et qui font de ce solo un fil tendu entre l’intime et l’universel.
