Après avoir achevé son cycle basé sur la rencontre avec l’autre (99 duos, Trois générations, Des Gens qui dansent) ou développé des projets vers l’Afrique (2147, l’Afrique), Jean-Claude Gallotta s’est attaché à retrouver l’énergie du rock dans sa propre danse. On ne se trouve pas éloigné ici des quêtes musicales adolescentes qui auraient pu troubler sa jeunesse, tant le catalogue des rock-stars est étoffé. Du King à Morisson, en passant par les Beatles ou Bob Dylan, ils sont tous là, et répondent en chacun de nous à des émotions déjà répertoriées. Que vient faire la danse dans tout ça ? Une danse qui n’a, selon le chorégraphe, jamais vraiment trouvé le point de rencontre avec la culture rock. Avec ces variations autour de My rock, portées par la deuxième promotion de sa cellule de professionnalisation de jeunes danseurs, Gallotta montre simplement le point de rencontre possible entre la danse et une culture populaire. Avec, au final, une idée qui lui ressemble bien : faire danser le public conjointement aux danseurs.
