Le beat-boxeur, auteur et compositeur américain, avait depuis longtemps le projet d’évoquer l’étonnant destin de ses arrières-grandes-tantes, les sœurs siamoises Millie-Christine McKoy. Deux femmes nées esclaves en 1851, enlevées, emprisonnées, exploitées puis devenues artistes de music-hall, libres, indépendantes et même célèbres. Elles sont un symbole fascinant de la lutte contre la ségrégation raciale aux Etats Unis. Dans cette performance, Napoleon Maddox convoque son groupe Iswhat ?!, pour une proposition musicale qui mêle poésie, slam, free jazz, danse et vidéo. Une création que son auteur définit comme un « Multi-media Narrative driven Performance Art set to Hip-hop and Spiritual Jazz ». « C’est sans doute une très longue définition ! Le style de la narration vidéo ajoute de nouveaux repères pour les improvisateurs afin qu’ils se projettent de façon innovante, inédite, en fonction de chaque proposition vidéo et en suivant la performance du chant et de la poésie. » explique Napoleon Maddox.
