Dix ans après son prix au Concours des Voix nouvelles, Nathalie Manfrino a pris sa place dans le firmament des sopranos lyriques, la catégorie vocale offrant la plus grande variété de rôles. Pour une française, c’est presque un exploit : on associe habituellement le chant français aux coloratures stratosphériques ou aux grandes voix amples. Les scènes de l’hexagone ont pourtant besoin d’une voix comme la sienne pour interpréter Micaëla, Juliette, Manon et surtout Roxane. Ravissante et vibrante face aux Cyrano de Roberto Alagna ou de Placido Domingo, elle fait sonner un timbre limpide comme de l’eau claire. Le public faisait une double découverte, celle de la musique d’Alfano et celle d’une jeune soprano à la tessiture longue prête à brûler les planches. Aujourd’hui elle continue de défendre le répertoire français délaissé, avec un gala Massenet à Favart qui fait écho à son dernier album. Frémissante et coquette, volontaire et fragile, elle incarne toutes les facettes des héroïnes françaises.
