Afro-européenne par ses parents, Nathalie Soles a grandi pendant vingt ans Maroc, et a su puiser dans ce vivier de cultures, de rencontres et de paysages la sève de son chant. «Le Maroc, est un étonnant carrefour de gens, d’arts, de culture. On y vient comme en pèlerinage… Je m’en échappe pour mieux y revenir.». Cet attachement aux origines donne de solides racines à son chant, racines qu’elle choisit et cultive, mais cet enfant du jazz ne s’arroge pourtant aucune filiation avec la musique orientale. Son jazz est intime, sa voix va à l’essentiel. Celle qui se décrit comme «mère, épouse et voyageuse» chante autant pour nous que pour les siens. «Un parcours artistique est comme une histoire d’amour, il s’entretient, se travaille.» Douée d’une voix d’exception, avec ses quatre octaves et demie revendiquées comme autant de champs de possibles, Soles a des arguments pour se faire entendre, en toute simplicité.
