PHILARMONIE DE PARIS / PIANO ET ORCHESTRE SYMPHONIQUE
Nelson Freire n’est pas loin d’avoir soixante-dix ans de carrière, bien qu’il soit né en 1944, au Brésil : il est monté sur scène la première fois quand il n’était qu’un bambin… En 1957, il est, à 13 ans, le plus jeune candidat du Concours international de Rio et la vedette de tout un pays fasciné de voir un minot affronter le Concerto « Imperador » de Beethoven, et d’en triompher comme un grand sous les acclamations du Théâtre municipal de Rio, en présence du Président de la République. Le voici à Paris, pour jouer le Concerto en fa mineur de Chopin, sous la direction de Mikko Franck à la tête de l’Orchestre philharmonique de Radio France. L’opus 21 est une spécialité du Brésilien, qui l’a joué lors du concert officiel des 150 ans de la mort du compositeur franco-polonais, à Varsovie. Freire le joue divinement, avec une sonorité chaleureuse et lumineuse, un cantabile de rêve, une verve et une fantaisie irrésistibles dans les mouvements vifs, d’une manière qui n’a pas son équivalent aujourd’hui.
