Trahi par sa sœur et tous les amateurs de solutions faciles qui refusèrent de voir le moraliste sous l’iconoclaste, Nietzsche est un penseur impitoyablement lucide que seuls des optimates de la trempe de Lou Salomé surent comprendre et aimer. Contre les assauts de la folie, contre l’égoïste bêtise de Wagner, contre l’abusive sollicitude d’Elisabeth, le philosophe résiste avec autant de morgue que d’ironie comme résistera Lou contre la clique antisémite récupérant l’œuvre du génie aux heures sombres de l’Allemagne nazie. Deux espaces scéniquesservent de cadres au double combat que Marc Lesage met en scène : d’un côté, la chambre du philosophe en proie à ses démons, de l’autre le bureau du serviteur du Diable, le terrifiant Goebbels, avide de constituer, au prix de la falsification, du contresens et de la trahison, le fond idéologique des émétiques éructations de son maître. Entre les deux, les rochers d’Engadine, asile de la mémoire malade de Nietzsche, qui y convoque les fantômes de Lou et de Wagner pour une ultime et fantasmatique balade aux sommets.
Des personnages bien campés et un texte efficace
Le texte de Gilles Tourman, remarquablement nourri de cette pensée de l’aphorisme et de l’éclat, offre les conditions d’une vulgarisation très réussie, évitant les pièges du didactisme tout en s’autorisant des citations en clins d’œil. Point de leçon de philosophie austère dans cette entreprise, mais un parti pris biographique, par fidélité à la suggestion de Lou Salomé qui affirmait qu’il faut s’intéresser à la vie du philosophe avant de s’intéresser à sa philosophie. On voit donc le pourfendeur des indigestions historiques se répandre dans ses caleçons pour emmerder la trop dévote Elisabeth, le contempteur du ressentiment moral dire son mépris des antisémites et des rats porteurs de cette peste haineuse que Lou Salomé combat de l’autre côté de la scène, en tâchant de rallier Leni Riefenstahl à sa cause contre la récupération de la pensée du crucifié dionysiaque. Le texte et la mise en scène jouent habilement des passages et des entrelacs entre les époques dessinées par les trois zones scéniques, aboutissant à une belle et poétique réconciliation centrale sur les rochers d’Engadine entre Richard, Lou et Fritz, plus haut que la bourbe historique qui salit leur amitié et leurs réputations. Servi par des comédiens habiles à ressusciter leurs personnages, ce spectacle est un bel et intelligent hommage à « l’aéronaute de l’esprit » qu’était Frédéric Nietzsche.
