Le couple Bach-Harnoncourt demeure mythique. Depuis l’enregistrement des cantates dans les années 70, le chef autrichien a régulièrement interprété les grandes œuvres sacrées du compositeur. L’équipe est fidèle : les instruments anciens du Concentus Musicus de Vienne, au grain riche et âpre, donnent la réplique aux voix équilibrées du Chœur Arnold Schoenberg. Pour le concert de la Salle Pleyel, le programme offre trois cantates d’exception : "Schwingt freudig euch empor" BWV 36, de caractère léger, "Ach wie flüchtig, ach wie nichtig" BWV 26, habitée par la mort, et la majestueuse "Wachet auf, ruft uns die Stimme" BWV 140. Les solistes vocaux sont tous rompus à l’interprétation historique, depuis la contralto Elisabeth von Magnus (qui n’est autre que la fille d’Harnoncourt) jusqu’à la basse Anton Scharinger.
