Tout aurait pu suivre son bonhomme de chemin dans cette base météorologique subantarctique, entre observations scientifiques sur la vie animale et soirées paisibles entre gars : moments passés à bouquiner, à jouer aux échecs, à manger un sandwich devant la télé, à ronfler sur une banquette, à travailler ou simplement à ne rien faire. Tout aurait pu suivre ce chemin-là si Veronica Evans — une vampe nymphomane prétendument interprétée par Gina Lollobrigida — n’était venue perturber cette tranquillité toute masculine. « Oh merde, les gars, c’est une gonzesse », s’écrie l’un des professeurs en voyant cette nouvelle consœur descendre d’un hélicoptère. Immédiatement rejetée vers la mer, Veronica ne se laisse pas décourager. Elle revient plusieurs fois à l’assaut, déguisée en chien de traineau, en manchot ou en extraterrestre. Résolument loufoque, empruntant à la parodie de séries ou de films de genre (le cadre de la pièce fait référence à The Thing, de John Carpenter), cette version acoustique de No way, Veronica donne naissance à un petit divertissement d’une parfaite technicité, un petit divertissement déployant un univers pointu et bon enfant.
Une parodie acoustique dirigée par Jean Boillot
Jean Boillot explique que sa représentation a pour dessein de « travailler sur l’impossibilité de représenter au théâtre une banquise enrubannée d’une tempête de neige, les paroles d’un pingouin, le ballet d’un hélicoptère, les traversées fulgurantes de la soucoupe volante qui transporte E.T. » Le résultat se révèle d’une étonnante efficacité. Chacun face à un micro, Katia Lewkowicz (interprétant les voix des comédiens censés jouer les personnages d’Armando Llamas : Gina Lollobrigida, Peter Falk, William Holden, James Mason…), Jean-Christophe Quenon (en charge de la voix off et des claviers) et David Maisse (effectuant les bruitages) rendent d’une façon saisissante la matière sonore de ce pastiche parfois absurde, souvent grotesque. Un pastiche qui se joue des clichés de certaines productions cinématographiques ou télévisuelles des années 1970-1980 en mettant de côté toute notion de jeu théâtral. Ici, l’histoire comme les images passent uniquement par la voix et les effets sonores. Ainsi, faisant appel à l’imaginaire du public, No way, Veronica (Ou nos gars ont la pêche) est un spectacle qui s’écoute plus qu’il ne se regarde. Un spectacle qui se vit comme une joyeuse performance acoustique.
