Star dans son pays et célèbre aux Etats-Unis où il a remporté en 2009 le prestigieux Concours Van Cliburn, ce jeune pianiste de 28 ans est né aveugle et a d’abord appris le piano avec l’aide de ses proches. Enfant prodige, instrumentiste surdoué, Nobuyuki Tsujii, dit « Nobu », ne s’apparente pourtant pas à l’un de ces pianistes phénoménaux, bêtes de podium, monstres de virtuosité, qui trustent les concours internationaux. Ce qui frappe à son écoute est bien au contraire la poésie et la fluidité de ses échanges avec les partitions qu’il aborde, le lien quasi télépathique qu’il développe avec le clavier, l’émotion qu’il dégage. « J’ai la plus grande admiration pour lui. Dieu lui a pris ses yeux mais lui a donné des dons physiques et musicaux qui lui permettent de dominer les plus grandes œuvres du répertoire » a déclaré à son sujet le grand Menahem Pressler. Rarement encore entendu en France (on peut se souvenir d’une invitation déjà lointaine de Yutaka Sado pour un concert avec l’Orchestre des Concerts Lamoureux il y a quelques années), Nobu connaît enfin l’honneur d’un grand récital parisien, au cours duquel il jouera Beethoven (Sonate n°8 opus 13 « Pathétique » ; Sonate n°30 opus 109), Chopin (Douze études opus 10) et Liszt (Feux-follets, Harmonies du Soir, Mazeppa -extraits des Etudes d’exécution transcendante).
