Farid Paya défend un théâtre qui fait circuler les énergies entre le corps, le texte et la musique. Un théâtre fidèle à ce qu’il considère comme l’essence de l’art dramatique. « Pendant des millénaires, soutient-il, le corps, la danse et le chant ont constitué la matière première du théâtre. Mon envie n’est pas de faire de l’archéologie, mais d’inventer, aujourd’hui, un langage qui reste fidèle à cette histoire pour dépasser les limites des spectacles purement psychologiques. Le corps étant le siège de la vie, si l’on veut être vivant, il faut lui donner toute sa place. L’acteur va beaucoup plus loin lorsqu’il chante, lorsqu’il danse, lorsque son corps est réellement pris en compte. » En investissant l’univers clair obscur, les souffles enflammés de Noces de sang, le metteur en scène souhaite élaborer une représentation qui porte sur le plateau cette conception charnelle du théâtre. « Les corps structurent l’espace et à l’inverse l’espace se structure à partir des corps, affirme-t-il. Ces structures que j’ai induites ou découvertes en répétition sont portées par la poétique des corps créant une poétique de l’espace. C’est pour cela que je n’aime pas les grands décors, car ils empêchent de rendre compte de cette double poétique. » Ainsi, point de scénographie monumentale pour ces Noces de sang, mais un espace qui se creuse, qui s’agrandit d’acte en acte pour s’ouvrir à toute la scène et révéler les impasses d’un drame passionnel.
De l’amour à la mort
Un drame qui transforme le village d’une « Méditerranée rêvée » en théâtre de l’amour, du désir, de la désobéissance, de la mort… Entre lumières et ténèbres, une noce se change en chasse à l’homme, le personnage de La Fiancée ayant décidé de laisser son nouvel époux pour prendre la fuite avec celui qu’elle aime. « Cette tragédie de la passion passe de l’univers de la fête, de la lumière, de la joie, à celui de la nuit, de la forêt, explique Farid Paya. La lune apparaît, la mort s’annonce : tout bascule de façon brutale vers une forme d’obscurité fantastique. Ce que j’aime avant tout chez Lorca, poursuit le metteur en scène, c’est sa densité d’écriture, la façon qu’il a de manier à la fois la prose et la poésie, sa capacité à créer un théâtre d’une structure dramatique parfaite. Noces de sang aborde des sujets particulièrement forts, pose de grandes questions sans pour cela apporter de réponse. Par exemple, comment l’amour peut-il mener un homme et une femme jusqu’à la mort ? C’est incompréhensible ! C’est la notion même d’humanité qui se trouve interrogée à travers cette disposition à placer la passion au-dessus de sa propre vie… Cette pièce nous pousse à regarder en nous-mêmes, à nous placer au bord de cet abîme sans fond qu’est l’être humain. »
