Trois femmes se retrouvent dans un théâtre. La première est russe, la deuxième tchétchène, la troisième lettone… A partir d’un travail documentaire sur la prise d’otage du Théâtre de la Doubrovka, le dramaturge allemand Torsten Buchsteiner a élaboré un texte visant à conjuguer pensée politique et force poétique. « Nord-Est est une réflexion nuancée et intelligente sur le terrorisme, déclare le metteur en scène Andreas Westphalen. La pièce évoque les raisons qui conduisent à la violence, tout en montrant le caractère profondément injuste de l’acte terroriste, traité ici sur un pied d’égalité avec la violence d’Etat. » Axant leur travail sur « la recherche d’un jeu d’une sincérité absolue », les membres de la compagnie C.O.C. ont cherché à éliminer tout effet de théâtralisation pour donner à entendre « un récit où les témoins doivent supporter le choc provoqué par la rencontre avec le lieu de leurs traumatismes ».
