Ecrite en 1994, un an avant la disparition de Jean-Luc Lagarce, Nous, les héros s’inspire du Journal de Franz Kafka (dans lequel l’auteur tchèque exprime notamment ses interrogations existentielles et littéraires) pour célébrer les valeurs de l’engagement artistique mais aussi en éclairer les tourments. A travers le quotidien d’un groupe de comédiens, Nous, les héros pose ainsi la question du théâtre, de la troupe, de la transmission, de l’héritage…, mais aussi tout simplement celle de la condition humaine. « Les protagonistes expriment leurs doutes, leurs incompréhensions, leurs désirs mais les interrogations posées par l’auteur dépassent largement le cadre théâtral », explique Elisabeth Hölzle. « “Trouver sa place”, “Faire que nos rêves concordent à peu près à la vie que nous menons” : Jean-Luc Lagarce aborde ces questions existentielles avec clairvoyance, humanité et humour. »
