Si la native de La Havane n’a pas – loin s’en faut – encore fêté ses trente ans, cela fait désormais des lustres qu’Ana Carla Maza s’attelle au violoncelle, à Cuba où elle a grandi, et puis au conservatoire de Paris où elle s’était installée en 2012. Depuis, celle qui fut l’élève dans la classe d’Hélène Dautry et vibre aujourd’hui à Barcelone a ajouté d’autres cordes à son registre des plus variés, enchantant le public conquis par sa prodigieuse technique. Découverte à travers des solos où elle entremêlait musiques brésiliennes et traditions cubaines, échos du classique et accents jazz, la voilà qui revient cet automne avec un troisième disque, cette fois en sextet. Caribé, c’est son titre, donne déjà le ton des enjeux : une bande-son au diapason de sa musicalité, où Ana Carla Maza invite à une traversée latino-américaine, corps et âme au cœur des rythmes (huayno du Pérou, cumbia de Colombie, guaguanco de Cuba, samba du Brésil, et même une pincée de reggae de Jamaïque…). Elle y chante aussi, en espagnol et en français, comme elle est à sa main sur l’archet aussi bien qu’elle pince de ses doigts les cordes de son violoncelle. Tout bonnement virtuose.
