Au départ, il y a une émotion. Celle de Laurent Orry lorsqu’il lit pour la première fois Novecento : Pianiste. Le texte d’Alessandro Baricco lui parle, le bouleverse même, lui donnant l’impression de tendre un miroir à sa propre existence. « Je me sens proche de Tim Tooney, confie-t-il, trompettiste sans trompette, parti de rien et revenu de tout, qui décide un jour d’adolescence de prendre le large à bord d’un paquebot de croisière et d’y passer sept années inoubliables ». Au Théâtre du Grand Pavois, le comédien et metteur en scène s’empare de ce récit qui ravive le souvenir d’un « pianiste à l’immense talent, à l’incroyable destin et au nom improbable ».
La vie rêvée, vécue ou manquée
Ce pianiste, c’est Danny Boodmann T. D. Lemon Novecento, meilleur ami de Tim Tooney qui aurait passé toute son existence en mer, sur Le Virginian. Dans une mise en scène et une scénographie minimalistes, avec un cube pour unique support de jeu, Laurent Orry devient le narrateur de cette histoire à la fois étrange et réaliste, qui porte en elle « une réflexion profonde sur la vie rêvée, vécue ou manquée, et sur la façon dont la mémoire, joyeuse ou douloureuse, nous enferme ou nous libère ». Entre accents tragiques et ironiques, pénombre et pleins feux, Tim Tooney s’ouvre à nous en tentant de « combattre la tentation du désespoir ».
