Avec une population métisse par excellence, Madagascar se constitue de cultures croisées :
Indiens Karanes, Vezo du Sud-Est Africain, Merina descendants d’Indonésiens, legs colonial…
Garant d’un patrimoine culturel en perpétuelle évolution, le Ny Malagasy Orchestra a pour objectif de faire connaître la musique malgache au-delà de l’île, mais aussi de soutenir et faire émerger des talents méconnus, donnant à l’orchestre un rôle de pépinière artistique qui se
joue à tous les stades de création, de diffusion et de production. Sous la direction de Justin
Vali et Tao Ravao, une dizaine de musiciens véhiculent ce terreau culturel doté d’une tradition
artistique immense et d’instruments vernaculaires : jejy voatavo (cithare sur bâton), valihas
(cithare tubulaire), percussions traditionnelles, flûtes, kabosy (petite guitare), mandoline,
tambour langoraona, violon lokanga, mais aussi accordéon ou guitare folk. Un héritage tissé
d’influences occidentales, asiatiques et africaines, auquel le Ny Malagasy Orchestra ajoute
sa propre modernité, inventant un folklore singulier, accessible et riche.
