C’est à 88 ans que Stéphane Hessel publie Ô ma mémoire, la poésie ma nécessité, sept ans avant de mourir au terme d’une vie incroyablement remplie. Né à Berlin en 1917, il a été résistant et déporté au camp de Buchenwald d’où il a réussi à s’échapper par miracle. Diplomate, polyglotte, engagé pour de nombreuses causes (des sans-papiers à la Palestine en passant par les droits humains et l’écologie), cet homme a tout connu de son siècle. En 2010, il accède à la notoriété avec son livre Indignez-vous !, un succès d’édition inattendu (plusieurs millions d’exemplaires vendus). Le public découvre également que l’histoire de ses parents a inspiré Jules et Jim à Henri-Pierre Rocher et François Truffaut. Son itinéraire foisonnant est raconté dans Ô ma mémoire, un texte où ce féru de poésie évoque les 88 poèmes qui lui ont sauvé la vie. Sa petite-fille Sarah Lecarpentier est comédienne. Accompagnée par le pianiste Simon Barzilay, elle rend un hommage touchant et sensible à la mémoire de cet homme hors du commun qui fut son grand-père. Un spectacle mis en scène par Kevin Keiss, pour qui « parler d’héritage, de filiation, pour nous qui venons d’avoir trente ans », apparaît comme une nécessité.
