Lové au creux des songes que lui susurre son tendre divan, Oblomov, propriétaire terrien pétersbourgeois, s’enfonce chaque jour un peu plus dans le moelleux de la paresse, envahi par la nostalgie d’une enfance insouciante et la quête d’une tranquille retraite. Il y a bien son serviteur Zakhar, fidèle bougon, qui tente de tenir le logis, fort délabré, et de le faire lever pour s’occuper de son domaine à la campagne. Il y a bien son ami Stolz, hyperactif acharné, qui galope en bonne société et espère le sortir de son indécrottable torpeur. Il y a aussi la charmante Olga, qui enflamme son cœur et désarçonne quelque temps son indolente inertie. Rien n’y fait… Métaphore de l’apathie russe pour les Bolchéviks, aujourd’hui figure d’une nouvelle sagesse par résistance passive pour les « décroissants », Oblomov, l’antihéros du roman de Gontcharov (1859), fascine toujours. Volodia Serre, qui fréquente depuis quelques années les auteurs russes, le met en scène, voyant à travers ce personnage rétif à la spirale productiviste un questionnement sur l’asservissement au travail et la pertinence de notre modèle de développement fondé sur la croissance.
