Le hautboïste et compositeur Jean-Luc Fillon, dit « Oboman », est engagé depuis 20 ans dans le projet exaltant d’installer le hautbois, cet instrument le plus souvent réservé à l’orchestre symphonique , comme une voix à part entière au service de l’improvisation, à la manière du saxophone ou de la clarinette. On se souvient en particulier de ses groupes Echoes of Freedom, en trio avec le batteur Barry Altschul et le contrebassiste François Méchali ou en quartet avec Mark Feldman, dans lesquels le hautboïste s’inscrivait résolument dans le langage du jazz contemporain. Mais Oboman est aussi un créateur agité, jamais installé dans le confort d’une formule, remuant, sensible et très réactif aux rencontres avec des musiciens du monde. Ainsi vient de naître ce nouveau groupe, un trio intitulé African Dream composé autour du leader (au hautbois et au cor anglais), du chanteur et griot Angolais Lulendo, qui joue aussi du Quissange (piano à touche du nom d’une vallée du Nord de l’Angola), et du fou chantant des percussions Xavier Desandre Navarre. Un alliage unique pour une expérience de jamais entendu, entre musiques du monde, jazz et électro.
