Le pari était risqué. Le livre est tellement captivant, ses personnages tellement attachants, décrits à la fois très finement et très simplement, que l’on s’est demandé comment la scène allait pouvoir rivaliser avec ce riche imaginaire et ce poignant concentré d’émotions. C’est sur les conseils de l’une de mes filles, qui a tant aimé le livre qu’elle a insisté pour que je le lise, que j’ai découvert ce délicat roman de Marie-Aude Murail, et nous sommes toutes deux allées voir la pièce avec une curiosité gourmande ! Un seul acteur, c’est intrigant, surtout quand le livre compte quatre personnages essentiels. On découvre au centre une armoire – à multiples fonctions. Puis quelques objets : petite voiture, playmobils, culbuto… qui constituent autant d’hommages à la puissance évocatrice des mots dont la scène s’empare ici avec humilité et talent.
Tendresse et humour
C’est d’abord l’histoire d’une fratrie : trois orphelins, Siméon (surdoué, 14 ans, en terminale), Morgane (8 ans, très discrète et forte à l’école) et Venise (5 ans, belle et adorable) découvrent leur demi-frère Bart, homosexuel plutôt “lâché“ et peu disposé à assumer les responsabilités d’un tuteur, et leur demi-sœur Josiane, ophtalmologue bien installée dans la vie et en quête d’enfant. L’acteur seul en scène (Lionel Erdogan) c’est Bart, parfois narrateur, parfois personnage, aussi puéril que Siméon est adulte, cachant sous sa légèreté, son humour et sa désinvolture de traumatisantes blessures d’enfance. Lorsque la terrible maladie de Siméon se révèle, Bart peu à peu se transforme et l’accompagne, et la guérison de l’un signifie la reconstruction de l’autre, parachevée par d’ultimes révélations sur son passé… Le metteur en scène Olivier Letellier met en forme avec intelligence et sensibilité ce parcours initiatique (récompensé par le Molière jeune public 2010), abordant les sujets les plus graves tout en les dédramatisant, avec au bout de la route une résilience fondée sur la tendresse et une forme d’humour.
