Il ne faut pas se fier au titre du dernier album de Jane Birkin. Du moins, pas tout à fait. Sorti douze ans après les dernières compositions originales de l’actrice et chanteuse anglaise, Oh ! Pardon tu dormais… n’est pas seulement drôle et doux comme une comédie romantique. Composé et produit par Étienne Daho, avec aussi le musicien Jean-Louis Piérot, cet album est d’une intimité tout en contrastes. Inspiré en partie d’une pièce de théâtre écrite par l’artiste il y a plus de vingt ans, il dit l’amour et ses métamorphoses. Il évoque les petites et les plus grandes joies, et les chagrins de toutes tailles. À 75 ans, Jane Birkin ne craint pas de chanter ce que l’on tait d’habitude. Largement autobiographiques, ses textes ne s’arrêtent pas à ce qu’on connaît d’elle : ils vont notamment creuser du côté de la violence, de la jalousie.
