« J’ai écrit Les Lois de l’hospitalité à partir d’une série d’entretiens que j’ai réalisée à Lyon, dans le cadre d’une commande des Subsistances, auprès d’une vingtaine de personnes dont le français n’est pas la langue maternelle. J’ai ainsi cherché à explorer la question du changement de langue. Qu’est-ce qui se passe quand on abandonne sa langue maternelle, quand on doit apprendre le français ? Qu’est-ce que tous ces changements impliquent ? A travers cette exploration du statut de l’étranger, j’ai souhaité poser la question de l’immigration, des sans-papiers, des clandestins de façon différente. Il est frappant de se rendre compte à quel point le langage met en jeu des choses du domaine de l’intime, à quel point il détermine la relation que l’on entretient avec soi-même, mais aussi avec sa famille. A partir de ces entretiens, j’ai écrit une pièce composée de dix parties au sein desquelles les témoignages se croisent et se répondent.
Poser la question de l’immigration de façon différente
Pour mettre en scène ce texte, Marie Vialle a choisi de travailler avec cinq danseuses-chorégraphes originaires d’horizons culturels et artistiques différents : l’ivoirienne Nadia Beugré, la taïwanaise Hai-Wen Hsu, l’américaine Courtney Kraus, l’ouzbek Natacha Kouznetsova et la brésilienne Ana Pi Moura de Oliveira. Le parti pris du spectacle est de passer du geste à la parole et de la parole au geste. Ces paroles ne sont d’ailleurs pas toujours celles que les personnes que j’ai interviewées m’ont dites. Car à travers ce texte, j’ai dû répondre à une double contrainte : être fidèle à ces entretiens, bien sûr, mais aussi à moi-même, à l’auteure que je suis. Les Lois de l’hospitalité n’est pas un reportage, mais une œuvre littéraire. Et je crois d’ailleurs que c’est en étant complètement dans le littéraire, en créant une nouvelle forme pour ces propos, que l’on a le plus de chance d’être fidèle à ce que ces personnes ont voulu transmettre. »
